I finally had some time to try and work on a card for my Clean and Simple card class. I'm a couple days behind so hopefully I will have some more time this evening to work on another card. I am loving the inspiration from the designers who are teaching and also the participants--it's been a lot of fun! So, my card today was inspired by a gorgeous card designed by Stephanie Klauck. The textural effect that she demo'd was glitter covered with clear embossing powder. There was a lot of masking and a lot of layers by the time the card was finished. If I were to make this card again, I would stamp the balloons first so that I could mask them off before stamping any background image...or pay more attention to my alignment of that background stamp--I'm not loving that bold gray stripe running through that turquoise balloon. The ink I used for the background was also a little darker than I envisioned. The picture lightens it up actually--in real life, the stripes are darker and my ink blending just looks a little like dirty pencil dust was smudged around the area which isn't a great look. Jennifer McGuire showed a color swatch book on her blog last week and I can't wait to make mine--I think it will help having actual inked-up samples for me to consult before committing to a color. I've been helping her with some files for her blog so this project has been on my brain quite a bit and it's just making me want my completed book that much more! I hope my swatch stamps I ordered from Simon Says Stamp! arrive soon! Speaking of SSS, I think I will enter this card in their Wednesday Challenge: Glitter It.
Testing out the inlinkz instead of linking all of my products used, but since Stampin' Up! isn't an affiliate with the company, I would need to pay for a membership to link to their products. Going to see how I like using it before I drop the $$$ for that!
Here's a link to Smoky Slate which is the SU! ink I used :-)
